The Opportunity


The cluster approach ensures clear leadership, predictability and accountability in international responses to humanitarian emergencies by clarifying the division of labour among organizations and better defining their roles and responsibilities within the different sectors of the response. It aims to make the international humanitarian community better organised and more accountable and professional, so that it can be a better partner for the affected people, host governments, local authorities, local civil society and resourcing partners.


The main purpose of this role is to be the Whole of Syria (WoS) Nutrition Cluster Co-Lead along with UNICEF WoS Nutrition co-lead and WoS Counterpart to ensure coordinated, timely and accountable nutrition response inside Syria. The WoS Nutrition Cluster Co-Lead will support the coordination of the two hubs (Gaziantep, Damascus) plus North East Syria WG and work closely with the Nutrition cluster/sector coordinator.




  • Significant experience in leadership and coordination roles, including direct experience in Cluster or Nutrition Sector Working Group.
  • Experience of developing and negotiating successful partnerships with institutional donors
  • Significant experience of undertaking a MEAL related role in a remote management humanitarian context.
  • Education to University degree level (Masters preferred) in a relevant subject or equivalent field experience.
  • Experience in child friendly data collection.
  • Experience in conducting and coordinating assessments
  • Experience of applying relevant interagency humanitarian frameworks and standards in nutrition in emergencies
  • Demonstrated strong monitoring and evaluation skills, including planning/participating in evaluations.
  • Ability to work both in an advisory and a hands on implementation capacity.
  • Ability to facilitate/conduct large technical trainings for staff.
  • Experience in strategic planning and coordination of strategy development
  • Experience of representation and ability to represent Save the Children effectively in external forums.
  • Experience of contributing to successful funding proposals for donors.
  • Ability to write clear and effective assessment and project reports.
  • Demonstrates commitment to Humanitarian Principles
  • Demonstrates commitment to Principles of Partnership
  • Very good knowledge and experience in development, set up and use of data and information management systems and tools
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with experience in advocacy.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy.
  • A high level of written and spoken English.
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support.



  • Language skills in Arabic.
  • Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts.
  • Formal training in cluster coordination an advantage
